The good news is that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get the look you’re after if you follow our advice. If you’re tired of your bedroom, kitchen or living room, keep reading to learn how to make it different without going broke.
- Pillows Help - This is an inexpensive way to make a big difference in the bedroom or living room. A lot of different sizes, styles and colors make it easy to find something that not only looks great in your home but is also functionable. The whole form over function question is something you should constantly ask yourself as you take on home improvement projects. A nice looking living room would be great on a magazine cover, but you also want to be comfortable in your home!
- Dark Walls - This can actually make your room look bigger. You might not think so, but if you have darker walls, you’re going to be surprised with how much bigger the room looks. This is an easy way to get a little more space - or at least the appearance of space.
- Bathroom Rug - This can be a super simple way to make your bathroom feel more at home. Make sure you pick out the right type of rug so that you don’t run into any problems down the line. Fortunately, rugs have come a long way over the years. You can get something that’s comfortable, looks great, and won’t soak up the water and start to mildew right away.
- Simple White Works - If you’re painting and trying to decide on a color, you should consider white. While simple, it really works to make a room feel homey. Of course, once you have white walls, you’re going to want to add little splashes of color wherever possible. From pillows to decorative art pieces, these look even more stunning against the white backdrop.
- Mix Styles - Don’t be afraid to mix and match styles. You can have a modern bed and a more traditional set of bedroom furniture if you like. You’ll find that a lot of different design styles actually go well together. Of course, you don’t want to take this too far, but don’t feel confined to only use one style as you design and decorate your home. You want something that’s comfortable and that describes who you are at the same time.
- Layered Lighting - You don’t want a single bulb or lamp try to work to light up the whole room, especially a bedroom. In most cases, five lamps will be better than three. Also, look at other types of lights, like those set into the ceiling or even skylights. Don’t be afraid to use natural light whenever possible to make your home feel even more comfortable and inviting.
- Coffee Tables - Who says you need the same type of coffee table as everyone else? A simple ottoman with a tray on top can make a great smaller table that doesn’t take up as much room. Depending on the size of your living room, you can play around with different styles and sizes of tables until you find something that looks wonderful while still being functionable.
- Skirts - If you add skirting to your chairs or couches, it can make the room feel more grounded. You’ll want to play around with this, of course, but a little experimenting with cloth skirting for your furniture is an inexpensive way you can make a huge difference in how a room feels.
- Plants - Don’t forget nature! Some plants can even help you filter the air in your home. You don’t want an Amazon rainforest in your jungle, but adding just the right amount of plants here and there throughout your living space can really go a long way in making it feel more like a home. The best news is that you don’t need to spend a ton of cash on getting great house plants.
By following the tips above, you should come up with some great interior decorating tips on your own. You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars to make a difference. Sometimes even small changes can do a lot to make your home better for you and everyone who visits.
