Have you ever thought of how extravagant a bathroom could possibly be? Even a luxury portable restroom can offer unexpected niceties many people simply wouldn’t expect such as air-conditioning, baby-changing tables, polished brass fixtures and real wood floors, plus a host of other striking amenities.
Most are familiar with posh restrooms from companies like Luxury Restroom Rentals, but how about a bathroom that offers a cascading waterfall from a fountain? How about live trees strategically located to make one feel they are part of a South American rainforest or better yet, a bathroom that is completely enclosed by a salt-water aquarium, complete with sharks and rays? Those kinds of bathrooms exist, so let’s have a little bit of fun finding out how extravagant some restrooms truly are!
The Wet Room:
The Wet Room is a new concept in bathroom design that breaks down the walls of traditional thinking, both figuratively and literally. These wet rooms incorporate an entire room that is completely waterproof and the shower area, itself, has no walls at all—none! Imagine a polished, 7-foot pole coming up through the floor, holding the shower-head above with nothing around the pole except space—just empty space- with the walls of the wet room being about 10 feet away on all sides.
Proponents of this curious concept say one of the key benefits is having no glass to wipe down. I have tell you, if that’s the main benefit, I’d have to wonder about the rest of the room that gets splashed from the shower’s spray. But if you like the idea of this kind of a shower and are contemplating installing one of these wall-less wonders, it will set you back by only about $20,000.
The Glass Floor:
If you’re afraid of heights, this is a bathroom you’d definitely not want to visit. In Mexico, a high-rise penthouse boasts of an unused elevator shaft being incorporated as part of the bathroom’s flooring. The see-through glass floor has a great view—15 stories down! Soft lighting, under the glass, accentuates the cemented texture of the original shaft, creating an eerie, abyss-like appearance; and the farther down the shaft travels, the darker it gets. Architects decided to utilize the space in an unusual way since it was decided the elevator would not be used as planned when the building’s renovation took place. Moving right along….
The Eyes Are On You:
In Akashi, Japan the ‘eyes’ have it—eyes of a giant sea turtle, that is. This oceanic bathroom is surrounded on three sides by tempered glass that holds back an aquarium completely surrounding the commode; and a sea turtle makes the watered enclosure his home.
At the cost of a mere $270,000, it’s a ‘ladies-only’ retreat since it was felt men would ‘compromise’ the beauty of the interior glass. But if you’re the shy type and a pair of turtle eyes might bother you, how about some goldfish eyes, instead…..
Goldfish Galore:
If you’re thinking of a simple bathroom renovation idea, look no further. For a mere $4,700, you can own one of the most outlandish sinks in recorded history—a bathroom sink that operates as a fully-functioning aquarium. The tank is a watertight, chrome-finished basin that provides two soap dishes which offer access to the interior of the tank for cleaning and daily feeding. An embedded pump/cleaning system provides the necessary filtration, circulation and oxygenation. For those who might feel a bit more unabashed, fish aquarium toilets are available, as well. Oh, if those fish could talk!
