If you are decorating your home on a budget, then it can be hard to think outside of the box when it comes to decorating and you may stick with the same old paint job, with the same old flat colour that will keep your home feeling refreshed for the next year. Just because you are on a budget, it doesn’t mean that you are limited to a single colour, or a single type of home improvement, and so today we are going to go through some decorating tips that will help you get more out of your budget.

1.) Use transfers

Sometimes, what you feel is lacking on your walls or cupboards is not a new, refreshed colour, but a touch of personality and depth and this is something that you can achieve very well through well chosen transfers. Transfers come in all types these days, and so you can add a tree, a teacup or practically any print onto your walls, and other surfaces to bring life to them. This is particularly great in kitchens and bathrooms as retiling can be expensive, but adding transfers to tiles will give them an entirely new look, at half the cost of retiling.

2.) Use rugs and throws

If it’s the sofas or the floors that are getting you down, then you may be of the opinion that the only option is to re-floor or re-carpet which is expensive enough to use up your entire budget. Rather than do that, add a rug to transform your floor without having to spend on a total refit.

3.) Replace the details

This is a good one for kitchens, as a lot of the time the simple fact that you are in the kitchen so often can quickly make it feel dull and boring. Rather than installing a completely new kitchen, replacing details such as kettles, cups, saucers and general kitchenware will go a long way in rejuvenating the space without the expense of a total refit.

4.) Hangings

Hangings can be quite scary for a lot of people, but this is usually because people are not really sure where to start or what to aim for with hangings as they don’t know the purpose. The purpose of hangings is to add an extra dimension to a room or a space, and often that extra dimension will have the effect of setting off a set of colours or moods. If your hallway seems a bit dull for example, even a new paint job will not add the warm feeling you are looking for, but hangings will,. Your favourite pictures, souvenirs and other such things can all go on walls to decorate and personalize. Don’t worry if you don’t get the effect you are looking for straight away, as it takes a but of time to collate enough to make this a beautiful part the home.

5.) Add plants

Instead of smashing and rebuilding your home, adding plant life is a cheap and easy way to really transform a space. Its absolutely amazing what plants can do to a room, whether they are indoor trees, spider plants, cacti or lilies – there is no limit to what you can use and how you can use it. Plants literally add fresh air to a room, a burst of colour and a pinch of happiness, so save your money and pop to your local garden centre for some greenery for a really beautiful effect in any room.
