It’s getting to that time of year when you look at your home and think you need a change. Redecorating can be time consuming and costly, so if you don’t want to go all out, there is still ways to make your home look and feel different with small changes. Adding a feature to a room can make a massive difference, it can act as a focal point, drawing attention to it.
Mirrors
Adding a mirror to a room can change the whole appearance. Choosing one that is large or has an unusual design can really make an impact. Not only can it act as a focal point, it can also make a room look bigger if strategically placed. Light reflected from the mirror can create an airy feeling, giving the impression of more space.
Fireplaces
A fireplace can completely change the feel of a room depending on the design and type you go for. Going for a more traditional style fireplace can give an authentic feel to the room, however a contemporary style can emphasise the chic and modern look. If you don’t have a fireplace or chimney in a particular room, this is not a problem; a flueless gas fire can be installed. This can offer a modern feature in your home, and many are used as a piece of art due to their stylish appearance. Not only will a fireplace act as a feature in your home, it can also heat a particular room rather than heating the whole house, saving you money on your energy bills.
Coffee tables
By just changing something as simple as a coffee table, you can transform a room. Again the theme of your room will depend on what style of table you choose. A more traditional room can benefit from an antique style table to emphasise the theme. A more contemporary style would benefit from an unusual piece of furniture, with a stylish and more modern look. Placing it in the middle of the room can draw attention to it, again making it the focus of the room.
Paintings
Hanging a large painting can transform a plain wall into a great feature wall. Remember to choose something that strikes you, and gives you a good feeling. Don’t just pick something because it is a classic or well known. Having something different is what will set your home apart from the rest.
Cushions
Not only do cushions add colour to a room, they can bring style and glamour. Placing a few of different styles and patterns artfully on a sofa, will attract attention. This is a cost effective way to transform a room, especially as they can be regularly changed if you decide to alter the colour of the room at a later date.
By incorporating any of these small changes into your home, you can transform it into a more stylish setting. Adding a focal point will enhance the room and give guests something to comment on.
