When we watch movies, we all feel like getting the kind of houses they show there. They look so clean, well maintained, with décor to die for. Well, technically speaking, the same things are pretty much very easily available to us in real life as well. All we need is a little sense of home décor, and a slightly refined taste to carefully select elements for our home, and put them all together.

Here’s how you can make your living room look ‘cinematic’:

Choose a theme

Most décors look good, if they are based on a certain style or a theme. For instance, some people like to go for a ‘Country’ look, with very beautiful, yet primitive prints and patterns that make their home look very welcoming. On the other hand, some people like to keep it very modern with a minimalistic approach that consists of limited, yet bold elements in the room. So choose a theme that best matches your tastes and budget, and research a little more on that.

Get interesting décor elements

A big gramophone on one corner, or one big painting almost the size of your wall, or one interesting sculpture in the middle of the room can transform the look and the feel of the space quite magically. Get signature décor elements, which attract people’s attention, and add to the ambience. Needless to say, they need to be in sync with the theme you choose, so that they don’t look out of place.

Don’t compromise on furniture

Since furniture pieces are bigger than paintings or photo frames or clocks etc., it is obvious that they make a big statement. Whatever is the theme you choose, spend a major chunk of your budget on good furniture, which is impressive and durable. When the bigger things in the room are catchy and attractive, the whole room looks beautiful on a whole. Technically, when a movie shows you a huge living room painted white, consisting of one bright red modern sofa and a silver standing lamp beside it, and with French windows against an open terrace, you fall in love with the space because of the big sofa. When you break it down mentally, everything else is ordinary. After all, there is nothing special in plain glass windows or white paint or a silver standing lamp!

These days, most people like to opt for unique furniture pieces, as per their décor theme. If your theme is Country, you can find table designs inspired from horse carts and barrels. If you like a Victorian feel, you will find ceramic design pieces with a hint of gold and silver in them. For that matter, Ottomans, Coffee Tables, Cocktail Tables, Sofas and Chairs, all are inspired from some theme or the other. There are even dolphin shaped sculptures with a glass top, acting as centre tables or ocean wave shaped TV consoles. It’s all about going in the market, checking out the variety, and bringing home the pieces that match your selected theme beautifully.
