Every few years arrive where you need to freshen up the paint on the interior and exterior of your home. Sighing in dread as you look at the shoddy paint job you did the last time, you gather your paint supplies and drop clothes to begin the task. With your brush caked in paint, you climb the ladder to begin the task.

But wait one second! Painting does not have to be a tedious, unpleasant task. You can enjoy painting and have fun if you tackle some important issues first, or hire handyman services who will give you a great paint job. Here are 3 things you need to know to help you with your paint project.

1: Temperature Has An Effect On Paint

Turning up the heat past 80 to get the paint to dry quicker or lowering the heat below 60 in the room because you hate to sweat can have negative effects when you apply the paint. Having the temperature up high will dry the paint too quickly during each brushstroke, making the paint look unblended. Keeping the temperature too low won’t allow the walls to absorb the paint properly and it won’t be applied as smoothly. You may also experience other problems that create a bad paint job.

When painting the interior of the home, keep the thermostat set at an even 70 degrees. Exterior paint projects should be done in the late spring or early fall where temperatures won’t drop below 40 degrees F and there is less direct sunlight.

2: Identify Problems Before Painting

You may experience more problems with your exterior painting due to weather conditions, the type of surface you are painting and the type of paint you are using. Problems you may notice include peeling paint, blistering, wrinkling, alligatoring (where the paint shrinks into small patches like scales on an alligator), and mildewing on the surface.

Some of these issues are caused by too much moisture, painting on a dirty surface, or the paint not adhering correctly. To determine the right course of action to fix the problem, contact handyman services in your area. They can fix the issue for you or provide advice so that you can have a great looking exterior.

3: Complete The Task At Hand

The main culprit for uneven paint jobs is not focusing on one wall at a time. Some people choose to paint the edges in the entire room before painting the main surface of each wall. But you should avoid doing this. The paint along the edges will be dry by the time you decide to paint the rest of the wall, giving an uneven appearance where the paint hasn’t blended together.

So paint one wall at a time, doing the edges of one wall and then immediately painting that entire surface before moving on to the next wall. You should also keep focused on completing the painting at one time. Don’t stop halfway along the wall for a break and then come back a few hours later. You’ll create darker spots on the wall where the wet paint overlaps with the dry portion.
