If you really like a modern styled interior and you are thinking about how to modernize your own environment, then you are in the right place! Modern rooms are wonderful, fresh and welcoming. Today we are going to go through some tips on how to create modern rooms that are clean and inviting.

1.) Space

The major element of a modern room is that it has everything the room needs and it also has a great deal of space. Modern design is all about efficient and aesthetically pleasing use of space which maximizes the sensations of air and light at the same time as providing you with all of the traditional elements that a particular room needs (such as seating in a living room or a bed in a bedroom for example). If you are designing a modern room, then good use of space is of utmost importance if you want to pull of an authentic modern feel.

2.) Light

Light is another major factor in modern design. Natural light, light from fixtures and fittings, lamps and candles are all modern ways to maximize a room’s light. One noticeable feature of modern rooms is that they tend to use muted colours (which we will cover in our next point) and the major reason for that is to make best use of light sources and provide accentuation, atmosphere and good visibility. Good lighting does not mean that you have high watt bulbs that blind you, good lighting means that all areas of a room are visible and accessible in such a way that it feels fresh and clean, and beautiful.

3.) Colouring

Colours in a modern room will be modern colours, and those colours tend to shift a little from era to era. Back in the seventies, orange was a bright, yellow toned colour, which by today has become muted, digitized and updated to become somewhat of a cooler, funkier version of the original. The same goes for most other colours, and so if your walls are looking a bit dated, it could be the time stamp on the particular shade that you are using,. Modern shades appear more matt than shiny, more khaki toned then green and flat but loud at the same time, so pay attention to your colour palette and pick shades that are modern to pull off the look.

4.) Minimalistic furniture

Modern furniture goes for a more minimalist look which means shabby chic and cosy are out, and Japanese and Feng Shui are very much in. Most of the time this means that sofas, chairs, beds and other furniture are designed to hold your body comfortably and are often low lying and closer to the floor than traditional furniture. Simple, yet effective: that’s the modern look.

5.) Shapes

Modern design loves shapes and this is a rule that should be applied throughout the room. Circles on the rug, rounded corners on wall shelving units, blocks and bricks are all modern design cues that work well in any room.
