Plants

Having plants in an office has many benefits – other than the fact that they are aesthetically pleasing, bring a splash of colour to the office and enhance the whole atmosphere of the office, they purify and filter the air around you. Studies have also found that having plants around you can reduce stress and improve productivity and concentration.

Colour

Nobody finds boring beige walls particularly inspiring, so why not make your office memorable for your employees and visitors by throwing in some bold colour. Different colours can have varying effects on people’s psychology and, although it is not advisable to have an office made up of four different coloured walls, why not try painting one feature wall and ask your employees what colour they would like.

Décor

Don’t go down the road of filling a blank wall with aclichéd poster of a motivational quote or spiritual proverb. In order to visually stimulate your employees, all you need are a few colourful paintings, some quirky art prints or classic black and white photographs. You could even ask people if there are any old prints that they’d like to bring in from home.

De-clutter

It’s no surprise that a cluttered office will make for a cluttered brain. It’s always easier to maintain cleaning and clutter little by little, as opposed to letting it build up. It may be a good idea to set aside a day for spring cleaning with your staff. You may be surprised at the amount of space you can create with a little cleaning and it will also motivate you and your team.

Music

Working in an office that is silent can actually be more distracting than working in an office with some music in the background. The majority of the time, people zone out the sound of the music but having it in the background can lift staff morale and make workers productive and upbeat.

A place to relax

Every office needs a place that is designated for non-working activities. It doesn’t need to be expensive or particularly elaborate, all it requires is a table, some comfy chairs and a cosy feel. Allowing staff to interact in a non-working, relaxed environment will improve group activity and productivity.

Individuality

Last, but not least, be creative! Nobody wants to work in a sterile office so, if you’re feeling very bold, why not let your team decorate the office how they like. This will improve team work and a feeling of contribution.

Rebecca and her company moved offices and wanted a modern and functional design. She was looking for a company that could do an office fit out in London and found Metre Squared - www.m2interiors.net.
