We’ve all got “that” room. The one room that cries out for something, we don’t know what or just can’t afford. What do you do when you just don’t have the budget for a big makeover? Believe it or not small budgets can go a long way if spent properly. $300 spent on the right things can make a boring room bloom with potential. Here are some simple fixes that can really add some pizzazz to your space.

Paint Color:

Do not under estimate the power of paint color. Paint color can set the mood, whether you are looking to make a space more serene or wanting to spice things up. If you are starting with a bright color, try something neutral, this will give you the most change for your buck. If you are starting with something neutral, go for the wow - just make sure you love the color, if it scares you, try painting an accent wall. You can make a fantastic statement for under $40 a gallon.

Accessorize:

Accessories are the unsung heroes in any space. A simple lamp, picture or vase full of flowers can bring in warmth, elegance and charm. The key is to stay away from generic items and get things that are meaningful. A picture that reminds you of a vacation, family photos framed to accentuate the décor, reminders of a favorite hobby hung on the wall, all of these can make a blah space - pop! Color is a necessary factor here as well. We often think of matching as a good thing but too much matching can get a little stale, instead pick a couple of items with bold coordinating colors to add interest.

Replace one piece of furniture:

If your budget is limited try replacing a big piece of furniture. A bookcase, credenza, accent chair, sofa even a new rug can add life to a space that has been dated or tired. Peruse sites like Craigslist for super deals. Be aware that adding something may mean that another piece of furniture has to go. Out with the old, in with the new. Moving things from room to room is a good way to redecorate without spending a bundle.

Bring in the green:

Plants! The freshness of living plants can add so much positive energy to a room. Potted plants can be elegant or whimsical and the beauty is you can change the pot to fit your décor. Large trees such as a ficus work well. Silk trees come in a variety of styles and sizes and you don’t have to worry about them looking fake. The newest versions out there could probably fool the birds! These fixes are inexpensive and can be done in an afternoon! Don’t wait till you win the lottery to get your dream home, start today. So many people think they have to wait until they can afford the $5000 couch or the total kitchen renovation. This simply isn’t true, little things go a long way, don’t sit in a room you absolutely loathe, take small steps to make it comfy cozy and more your style.
