Emerald green has been voted 2013’s home decor colour of the year by Pantone and what a deserved winner it is!
Emerald green is a bold, striking and yet such a tasteful colour. When used in the right styles it is sure to ignite excitement and colour accents to any contemporary home. Emerald green is also a colour which helps to bring a touch of the outdoors into the home and therefore helps us to feel closer to nature. Bright, refreshing and a colour which represents renewal and rebirth, green should be a serious consideration for any modern home.
Like an energised jewel it feels luxurious and yet quite earthy at the same time. Green is the most abundant colour on our planet and one which we associate with nature, calm and balance. So with these attributes in mind, it really is a colour we should be embracing and inviting into our homes.
That said, emerald green is a powerful colour and for this reason we have to be careful not to go for overkill. What can start off as a subtle and yet powerful design statement can end up in a garish mess and clash of colours. So without further ado, let’s take a look at this wonderful colour and how we can introduce it into our home.
Colour with Plants
The easiest way to bring a touch of green into the home is to do so with plants. The very symbol of nature, they not only look good but they purify the air too. In a modern home it is best to go for low maintenance plants which don’t require too much pampering. Choose nice big green leaves which will help add splashes of colour to any room.
Paint a Feature Wall
Whilst emerald green is far too bold a colour to paint a whole room, that doesn’t mean you can’t use it with conviction. A feature wall is the perfect place to inject some colour. Whether you paint the wall or choose a patterned emerald green wallpaper, the choice is yours but the results are fantastic either way.
Soft Furnishings
Add a splash or two of colour by going for scatter cushions or maybe a rug in a bold green or patterned green. It is a good idea to mix and match textures too to add touch and feel as well as to keep the eye interested. You can also introduce colour by your choice of curtains or blind colour. Just remember to keep it tasteful and resist overkill.
Accessorize
Again, similar to the soft furnishings, you can add highlights of emerald green as and where you need them by carefully choosing accessories. Items such as vases, sculptures, glassware and wall art are all ways in which you can add colour touches to any space.
