With a home, there are two aspects to it. You have home construction, which is an elaborate process in itself. Then you have the home decoration, which, frankly is an even more intense experience.
Fortunately, most of us may never have to worry about the home construction process. This is because of our tendency to simply buy a house that is already built or get a building contractor to build the house, if we want something that is truly unique. Very few amongst us wants to step down on the construction site and do everything on our own.
Either way, you have the house that needs decorating. At present, money is tight after spending on the house. Should that be a problem? We live in a world where there is something for everyone, no matter what is the size of their bank balance.
Functionality Over Aesthetics
Home decoration is part of home improvement that has to do with a utility or component that you are adding to your home. This home improvement, while doing its function should also look good, so that it contributes to the overall home decoration.
An easy example is living room furniture. The living room happens to be that one part of the house that sees a lot of traffic. Depending on the number of people who live in your home and the usual count of guests you expect, you will decide on the living room furniture. Given that we are on a budget here, it is possible to get an okay looking furniture that is comfortable to sit on. It will not be outright ugly and ruin the whole living room experience for everybody.
Contrast this to a fairly pricy living room furniture set that is either insufficient or not practical for the folks who live in your home. That would be a waste of comfort for everybody because, people would rather sit on an average looking chair than a fantastic chair that gives them back pain. So, when you start decorating your home, be it furniture or windows or doors or curtains and lighting, when presented with a choice, lean towards functionality while keeping an eye out for an appearance.
Decoration – Walls
A key part of any house that you are just moving in is the way you wish to decorate the walls. There are two options in front of you – paints and walls. If you are on a seriously tight budget there are excellent number of options that are available in wallpapers. While some people think wallpapers are cheap, we think wallpapers are a way of expressing your inner emotions.
What we like about wallpapers is that they can be changed as often as you want. This is a privilege that you don’t really get with paint. Another great feature about wallpapers is that you can remove and place the wallpapers yourself. Sure, you can paint the home on your own too but it is surely not as simple as ripping off a wallpaper to replace it with a new one.
Even among paints, there are so many paint variants that you can always get a good deal on paints and get it done on a budget. Also, you may want to consider painting your house yourself to give that personal touch to your indoors.
Decoration – Flooring
Flooring is probably the most expensive part of home improvement. Luckily, flooring also happens to be one of the home decoration components that very few people will actually notice.
Ideally, the more exotic options for flooring like marble and granite look and feel amazing. However, there are a lot of low cost flooring tiles available, that will serve the function of a strong floor. You can always opt to carpet your entire floor, which works similar to wallpapers. You can replace carpets as and when you choose to. That is perhaps the most interesting feature about carpets and they are comfortable to walk on as well.
Decoration – Windows and Doors
With windows and doors, you can get seriously creative. If you live in cold regions then it is important that you get some of those advanced window panes which come with heat containment features, which will help you reduce heating bills.
Of all the door and window designs, our personal favourite is the patio theme. These windows and doors are strong, well built, have reliable locking mechanisms and have a nice European styling wrapped around them. All in all, an excellent choice for home decoration.
The author, when getting his house constructed, chose to go for a conservatory and double glazing windows. He got a very good service from conservatories Dundee.
