Are you searching for new and inventive ways to decorate your home or office? If you answered “yes” to this question, then it’s vital to ask, “Have you considered street art as a possible inspiration?” Sure, you’ve seen the different displays around the neighborhood on walls and signs, but what about placing said displays or “art” in your home or office?
Start with the Walls
Painting the walls of your home or office can be tedious, especially if white is the chosen color. It’s high time to spice things up and get creative. Instead of a boring, neutral color, or any solid color for that matter, try a particular design or graffiti look (click here for some inspiration).
It won’t take much to inspire you; take a quick spin around the neighborhood and the spark is sure to be ignited. Whether you choose to decorate your space with numbers, random letters, cartoon pictures, or whatever it is that peaks your interest, you’ll soon discover that your room for pleasure or business is no longer dull, but hip and trendy.
There are different types of street art that can be encompassed here. Of course, stenciling is very popular and pretty basic. How about trying mural painting? Or perhaps you’re into wheat pasting or mural painting?
Though less common, wheat pasting is fun and inventive. Using wheat paste, you can draw portraits, designs, or a monogram that is important to you.
Considering the same process as wheat pasting, but with different tools to achieve a mural design. Using spray paint and acrylic paint, you can paint a mural across your office or home walls.
Add Different Furniture Pieces
Instead of using a basic glass or metal table or a boring leather chair, try to get inventive. Of course, you’ll want to use a piece of furniture that you won’t mind painting over or (potentially) staining. To obtain said furniture, try a thrift store or a garage sale. Not only will you find a piece that is meaningless to you, you should also be able to find it for a rather cheap price.
Graffiti can basically consist of anything. Whether you go all out and completely cover the piece of furniture with designs, scribbles, or pictures or just stencil a single word across the surface, you’re still expressing yourself and decorating your space in an imaginative and inventive way.
Feel Free to Go Crazy
You might also wish to try carving. Sometimes considered to be “deconstructive,” you can take any piece of furniture and etch, scratch, or carve it. Use your imagination here to carve a trendy pattern or design into a table, desk, or chair.
Depending on the space you’re decorating, you might try and find a theme. For example, if you have a favorite cartoon character, number, letter, etc. you might be able to stencil the image in different ways or colors on the walls or several items of furniture.
Or perhaps you’ll go for a bold statement, and just cover one wall or one piece of furniture with graffiti or a mural. The amazing part of using street art to decorate is that there are no laws or rules. You have the ability to go wild and have fun.
Buying is Also an Option
If you are not interested in creating your own street art, then perhaps you’d be more comfortable purchasing it. There are different galleries and online stores that offer paintings, portraits, and furniture that are already stenciled, deconstructed, or carved.
Street art is a new and inventive way to decorate the home or office. Not only are these different pieces appealing to look at and fun to create, but they can also potentially lead to inspiration. Looking at different pieces of art on a daily basis could encourage you to be more imaginative.
