Bedrooms are places of rest and relaxation and ensuring it’s a place that allows you to unwind after a stressful day should be a precedent. If a bedroom is too small or cluttered to feel relaxed in, then you may need to make changes here or there to ensure it’s a little more chilled. So, here are a number of tips to make your bedroom seem more spacious, roomy and relaxing.

Clutter

Mess is the enemy of relaxation and having too much lying around and cluttering up the room is sure to cause problems for the feeling of the area. Too much furniture causes all sorts of problems in bedrooms, so we would advise you to only keep what you need in a bedroom. Also, be aware that although personal items are a lovely addition, they often add clutter. If you feel that they are too much and take away from the relaxed feel of the room – remove them.

Furniture

The furniture you pick also makes all the difference and in a small room you need functional, clean furniture that serves its purpose well. Square, rectilinear furniture is better for achieving this than curved furniture.

Proportions

The proportions you choose make all the difference and if you have a large bed in a small room, it will be cramped no matter what. Perhaps choose a smaller bed and also scale down the furniture to fit with this bed size. Smaller lamps, decorations and other furniture that fits to scale works better than a mish mash, or all oversized furniture.

Smart Storage

One of the keys to a better bedroom area is to be smart with your storage. This can involve all sorts of additions. Under bed storage is one of the most logical options and there are a number of ways this can be implemented to create more room. In addition, decorative baskets, shelves and wall units can be used to remove small items out of sight and create more room. Prepacked furniture can be easily put together with some tool hire.

Ceiling and Colours

The colour of the ceiling is all important when it comes to the bedroom. To put it simply, the darker the colour the closer and smaller the room feels. Light and bright colours create a more spacious feel. This rule can also be applied to walls. If you want darker colours in the room, perhaps they can be utilised in accessory form.

Electronics

Even though it may seem tempting to have a TV or electronic equipment in the bedroom, it can cause a number of issues, creates clutter and also is often an unwanted distraction that is not conducive to relaxation. Our advice is to avoid having these items in the bedroom area.

The bedroom area can be challenging because the temptation is there to clutter it. However, these tips should ensure that the room is not as cluttered and more relaxing and so fits your needs.
